Charles Leclerc expressed surprise at his podium finish in Zandvoort, following a disappointing qualifying session. He noted that the team does not have an answer yet as to why Ferrari showed such an improvement in speed.
"It's a very good question. Mainly, we need to understand why we were 0.9 seconds behind in qualifying, and suddenly looked very strong in the race," Leclerc said. "Because the car remained the same. It was just incredibly difficult for us in qualifying. But in the race, we looked strong - and those are the things we need to work on first."
Leclerc also mentioned the importance of understanding not just their failures but also the reasons for their occasional success. Currently, the team does not have an explanation for their performance. Despite this, Leclerc was pleased with the podium finish, as it came as a pleasant surprise.
However, he reiterated the need for Ferrari to figure everything out in order to perform at this level more consistently. "Yes, we achieved a great result, and I was very happy with the podium. But we still need to understand everything to perform at this level more often," he concluded.
