According to the British newspaper Daily Mail, Melania has been an outcast for famous fashion houses for quite some time now. The reason is evident: her husband, Donald, is not favored by the liberal fashion world. After his triumph in the US presidential elections, the situation worsened. A survey conducted by Women's Wear Daily among 16 renowned designers showed that none of them wanted to dress Melania.
Surprisingly, the former model, aged 54, seemed like the perfect fit for the fashion industry. Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of Vogue and a fashion icon who inspired the character of Miranda Priestly in the Hollywood movie "The Devil Wears Prada," essentially delivered the "fashion sentence" for Melania. She refused to put Melania on the cover of Vogue, even though previous First Ladies and the unsuccessful presidential candidate Kamala Harris had been featured there. Few designers dare to defy Wintour, with Stefano Gabbana being a notable exception in 2017 when he delightedly dressed Melania in a black jacket.
Nowadays, most of Melania's clothes are purchased off-the-shelf rather than custom-made for her. The key role in Melania's wardrobe is played by her personal stylist, Hervé Pierre. He is the one doing the shopping and personally created her evening gown for the Trump inauguration in 2017.
