In 1942, during the siege of Leningrad, artist S. Boim and poet B. Timofeev created a New Year greeting card with the words "Congratulations on the New Year, we fight the Germans with all our might, greetings from the Baltic naval artillery soldier."
Telegram channel of the Russian Historical Society (RHS) introduces a collection of military New Year greetings from the Museum of Contemporary History of Russia. The collection includes two cards by the famous artist Yuri Neprintsev, known for his psychological paintings about war: "The Last Grenade," "Rest after the Battle" (1951), and "Story about Father." Neprintsev studied at the Institute of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture in Leningrad under Serov and Brodsky, and his diploma work "Pushkin in the Village of Mikhailovskoye" was purchased by the Pushkin Museum. Unfortunately, it was destroyed by the Nazis during the war.
Among the collection presented by RHS, there is a unique card called "New Year Greetings from the Front," which appeared in the first year of the Great Patriotic War.
In another work created by artist M.A. Gordon in 1942 in blockaded Leningrad, the expression "With the forthcoming victory!" appears.
