Residents of the Perm region have been informed about the importance of iodine in their daily diet and the risks associated with its deficiency. The local health authority highlighted that the region is classified as an iodine-deficient zone, meaning the soil lacks sufficient iodine, which affects locally grown produce.
Iodine deficiency can lead to severe health issues, particularly in children and adolescents. These include stunted growth, weakened immunity, and increased susceptibility to infections. Additionally, it can impair intellectual development, cause fatigue, and reduce concentration and memory capabilities.
To prevent iodine deficiency, it is recommended to consume iodine-enriched products such as iodized salt, bread, and certain beverages. Additionally, incorporating iodine-rich foods like seafood, eggs, nuts, and specific fruits and vegetables into the diet is beneficial. Vitamin and mineral supplements can also serve as an alternative source of iodine.
